Thanks Mason for sharing your guitar skills with us again! We love listening to you, and we are always blown away by hearing our classmate play as well! These 2 kids are pretty talented!
Mrs. Stocker and Mount St. Helens
At the end of 2nd grade the students can't wait to learn about volcanoes and make them! Mrs. Stocker stops by each year to share with us her experience with the eruption of Mount St. Helens and her volcano visit in college. Mrs. Stocker is a great storyteller, and she has the students laughing through much of her stories. She also brings in items that were made out of ash after Mount St. Helens had erupted. Thank you so much Mrs. Stocker!

A Surprise Visit
During our math stations we had two 7th grade visitors stop in to share a song they are practicing for an upcoming event. What a surprise! The song they performed was so beautiful. I had one of these girls in this very classroom as a first and second grader, and I've been lucky to watch both of them grow throughout the years. I'm so proud of you girls for all of your hard work! Thank you for sharing your gift with us today!

I Love to Read Month
Although it was a crazy month of weather in February, we were able to participate in all of the planned activities for I Love to Read Month during this final week of February!
On Tuesday we had a teacher swap. Mrs. Ruen from 5th grade came to read to the 2nd graders, and I went downstairs to read to the 5th graders. Mrs. Ruen shared books that she has written about traveling and her pets. The 2nd graders loved her books!
On Wednesday we read with a 5th grade buddy and enjoyed an elementary read in at the end of the day in our comfy pajamas!
On Thursday we enjoyed a story from a surprise reader: Mrs. Boyum!
The week ended with Books for Breakfast and watching a magic show that focused on reading. What a fun week!

Thanksgiving Fun
A few weeks ago we started a Thanksgiving writing project after reading the book "Turkey Trouble" by Wendi J. Silvano. In this book the turkey doesn't want to become the Thanksgiving meal so he dresses up in many different disguises to try to trick the farmers. The students chose a way to disguise a turkey and wrote a letter to the farmer for reasons that the turkey should not be eaten. They worked on writing specific details to go along with the disguise. We put all this all together in a class book that the students love to read! This project dates back several years now, and the class loves going back and reading these booklets of disguised turkeys from previous classes!
Today we played Turkey Bingo, and we had 1 winner!
Happy Thanksgiving 2nd grade families!

A grandmother to one of our students has made it a tradition to visit her grandchildren's classrooms every year to read stories and share a treat. Thanks so much to Carol for visiting 2nd grade. We loved telling you jokes, listening to the Halloween stories, and the yummy treat! We look forward to seeing you again!
